Roddick salutes tennis gladiator Federer

Heartbroken Andy Roddick saluted Roger Federer's gladitorial, record-breaking Wimbledon performance which was appropriately witnessed by Hollywood hard man Russell Crowe.

Federer defeated Roddick 5-7, 7-6 (8/6), 7-6 (7/5), 3-6, 16-14 to win a sixth Wimbledon title and clinch a record 15th Grand Slam trophy in an epic Centre Court duel which lasted 4hr 16min.

Federer was having trouble picking up my serve today for the first time ever, said Roddick who has now lost all of his three Wimbledon finals to Federer and whose career record against the champion reads two wins and 19 defeats.

He gets a lot of credit for a lot of things, but not for how many matches he kind of digs deep and toughs out. He doesn't get a lot of credit for that because it looks easy to him a lot of the times. But he definitely stuck in there today.

Federer had to stick it out against Roddick, a player who has breathed new life into his career here and proved his worthiness as a contender by knocking out home hope Andy Murray in the semi-finals.

He was in tears by the end a result of knowing that he dropped serve just once but at the worst possible time the last game of an enthralling clash.

Ten times in the last set, the 26-year-old had to serve to stay in the match.

But he served great. I didn't get a lot of looks at second serves. I felt like when we were in rallies for the last couple sets, I was actually doing all right and holding my own, if not more.

He did what he had to. If he wouldn't have served as well, I'd probably be sitting here in a better mood.

Venus set on path to success by Serena

Venus will face Serena in Wimbledon final for 4th time

Serena Williams has admitted her only partner is her tennis racket because she is a little psycho.

The 26-year-old will face her elder sister Venus in the Wimbledon singles final for the fourth time today.

Off court, 29-year-old Venus is in a mixed double pairing American golfer Hank Kuehne, while Serena is still playing singles.

Serena needed to save a match point in her sem-final win over Elena Dementieva, while Venus hasn't dropped a set and has lost just 19 games, including only one to the No.1 seed Dinara Safina. It was a damning indictment of the embarrassing state of women's game but the grasscourt queens don't agree.

Maria Sharapova is famous female tennis Player and also popular model.

BIRMINGHAM, England (AP) — Maria Sharapova's Wimbledon preparations received a setback Saturday in a 6-4, 6-4 loss to Li Na of China in the Aegon Classic semifinals.

The Russian served erratically to drop to 5-1 against the 20th-ranked Li. The former No. 1 player had been out for 10 months with a shoulder injury before returning to action last month at the French Open.

"After such a long layover, every match and every situation is a different test to the body," said Sharapova, the 2004 Wimbledon champion.

"I still felt like I had many chances in this match, but I have played five matches in the last six days and after that you just hope you wake up with that intensity you need. Against her you need that."

Li will play Magdalena Rybarikova of Slovakia,

ho defeated Sania Mirza of India 3-6, 6-0, 6-3.

Sharapova's serve — revamped to prevent injury — lacked rhythm and conviction and she was broken six times.

Rafael Nadal Withdraws his from Wimbledon

Rafael Nadal has decided to withdraw from the 2009 Wimbledon tournement.

This has left one side of the table wide open for others to make the finals which include Andy Murray and Andy Roddick, and many others, but this also takes out the one thing that set Roger Federer away from getting his 6th straight Wimbledon title. This years Wimbledon will be a good one and one to remember.

Venus Williams Advances to Second Week of Wimbledon

Venus Williams beats Jankovic to reach U.S.Venus Williams powered her way into the second week of Wimbledon, beating Carla Suarez Navarro of Spain 6-0, 6-4 Saturday to reach the fourth round.

Williams is trying to become the first woman since Steffi Graf in 1991-93 to win three consecutive titles at the All England Club. The No. 3-seeded Williams is bidding for her sixth Wimbledon championship overall.

Williams won the first eight games against the 34th-ranked Suarez Navarro. The two played only once before, when Suarez Navarro upset Williams in the second round at the Australian Open in January.

Williams, whose younger sister Serena reached the round of 16 by winning Friday, meets 2008 French Open champion Ana Ivanovic for a berth in the quarterfinals.

Ivanovic advanced by defeating French Open semifinalist Samantha Stosur 7-5, 6-2. The former No. 1 has dropped to 12th in the rankings after some mediocre performances but looked back to her fist-pumping best on a sun-drenched Court 2.

The 19th-ranked Stosur sought to attack Ivanovic at the net but was done in by unforced errors and the Serb's quickness.Stosur saved a match point in the seventh game, but Ivanovic wrapped it up in the eighth with a big serve the Australian could not return.

Later Saturday, women's No. 1 Dinara Safina of Russia faced Kirsten Flipkens of Belgium. On the men's side, third-seeded Andy Murray of Britain played Viktor Troicki of Serbia.

Easy win for Safina in fourth round

Dinara Safina cofirm fourth round so easily.Safina defeat Kirsten Flipken .

World number one Dinara Safina sailed into the second week at Wimbledon for the first time on Sunday, defeating Belgium's Kirsten Flipkens 7-5 6-1.

The Russian, three times a grand slam runner-up but never a winner, had a fight on her hands in the opening set of the third round match but overwhelmed the world number 110 in the second.
With thunder rumbling overhead, Flipkens got her only set point at 5-4 in the first which she squandered. Safina finally broke in the 11th game and served out to take a 1-0 lead.
The Russian went into overdrive as the heavens threatened to open on the new number two show court but the rain just held off and she swept to an easy 6-1 second set clincher.

At her post-match news conference, Safina said it was "annoying" that people kept pointing out she was world number one without having won a grand slam.
"I'm consistently there," she said. "One day I will get the grand slam and nobody can talk anymore that I am number one without a grand slam," she said.

Safina next faces 17th seed and former champion Amelie Mauresmo for a place in the quarter-finals.
The Russian said of her French opponent: "This year she's playing very good. I think she's back in her best shape. She likes playing on grass."

Great moment of Dinara Safina's

Tennis is a real funny game for us.it provides us lots of fun.

Sharapova's road to recovery just beginning

WIMBLEDON, England - Deep down, Maria Sharapova believes that her money shots will return sometime soon, that she'll be able to impose herself again and rediscover the right kind of attack and consistency that once brought her to No. 1 in the world.
Wednesday at Wimbledon, Sharapova showed that she's still a long way from the form that made her one the world's most threatening players, even as recently as the start of 2008, when she could tear the cover off the ball and dominate her foes with blitzing serves, returns and groundstrokes.

"There's no real gray area today," said Sharapova, the 2004 champion here. "I had so many easy balls, and I just made unforced errors from those. I don't really know if that's because I haven't played. When I've had those situations before those balls would be pieces of cake, and today they weren't."

Like she did in Paris, Sharapova fought hard, but this time, after snarling back from a 6-3, 3-0 deficit and winning seven straight games, Sharapova lost her rhythm once again. The creative Dulko mixed up her shots, took pace off the ball, served intelligently and passed the tall Russian at the net again and again.
